We accept the findings of Sir John Saunders’ report, published this afternoon, analysing the emergency services response to the Manchester Arena terrorist attack on the 22nd May 2017.
Our thoughts remain with the families of the 22 people who were tragically killed and all those whose lives were changed because of this horrific incident. We will never forget the profound impact of the attack on the bereaved families, survivors, our staff and the communities we serve.
Everyone who participated did so with the best intentions to try to save lives and help people. We understand that when people lose their lives, ultimately, that is how our performance as an organisation will be judged.
We wish we had done more that night. We apologise for our failures; they weigh heavily on us.
Following the attack, we made changes to our operating procedures and improved training and availability of equipment. Now we will thoroughly review the Chairman’s findings and work with the police and fire services to ensure recommendations are quickly acted upon.
Our Chief Executive, Daren Mochrie, will be taking part in a press conference alongside our police and fire service colleagues at 4 pm, when we shall also publish our full statement.
