As a member of the LGBT Network, this awareness day is very important to Adam. He told us, “World AIDS Day recognises the millions of people around the world who are living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus, or HIV. HIV and AIDS still represent a health inequality for gay and bisexual men. Today is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV and to show support for people living with HIV.”

Adam, who is also a member of the National Ambulance LGBT+ Network, has written this month’s ‘15 minute read’ for the network. They provide up-to-date information and help ambulance clinicians to understand how they can provide good care to the LGBT community.

 Adam said, “As part of my HIV work, I have written this month’s 15 minute read which provides an overview of the government’s Towards Zero Strategy that aims to eliminate new HIV infections in the UK by 2030. The plan is really useful for clinicians as it highlights the part we can play in the ambulance service to make patients’ lives better.”

He adds, “Also, highlighted in the government’s action plan is the importance of combatting the lingering stigma of HIV and AIDS, alongside the other more practical aspects in preventing transmission. This plan is useful to everyone, not just us clinicians. Have a read and see how you can help challenge the long-lasting stigma.”
