Our volunteers operate across the whole of the North West and are a vital part of our service. You can volunteer with NWAS as either a community first responder (CFR) or as a car driver.
When you apply to volunteer with NWAS, we ask you to complete an application form where we request the following information:
• Name; current and previous
• Aliases (known as)
• Date of birth
• National Insurance Number
• Telephone numbers (home, mobile, work)
• Email
• Home address
• Ethnicity
• Details of any disabilities
• Marital status
• Sexuality
• Religion or belief
• Health questionnaire
• Next of kin details
• Current employment details
• References
• Driving license details including endorsements and accidents history
• Details of any criminal convictions
• Your location (when you are on duty)
• Copy of car documentation; tax, MOT, insurance and log book (for driver volunteers)
Successful applicants are required to provide an up-to-date passport or digital photograph, driving licence and documents such as council tax/ birth or marriage certificate for the enhanced Disclosure and Barring service.
The information you provide will be used to evaluate your suitability to volunteer with us (either as a CFR or a Car Driver). The evaluation process will include confirming your identity, seeking assurance of your good character, trustworthiness, and reliability, checking your driving record and carrying out a health screening. Information on ethnicity or background, disability, sexuality, and religion or belief is used for equality monitoring and to help us understand the demographics of our volunteer group. This information will support the processing of the eDBS process along with forming right to work checks. It is a legal requirement for work checks to be completed for volunteers (set out in sections 15 to 25 of the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006, section 24B of the Immigration Act 1971, and Schedule 6 of the Immigration Act 2016.) As part of this legal requirement, copies of documents that have been checked for this purpose must be retained securely by NWAS for the duration of employment and for a further two years after employment ends.
We rely on your explicit consent (GDPR Art. 9(2)(a) to process this information. An application to become a volunteer is not affected in any way if you choose not to provide it.
Your contact information will be used to:
• Update you on the progress of your application;
• Outcome of interview/induction;
• Apply for an enhanced DBS;
• Add you to our cleric system to contact you for additional journeys (car driver)
• Provide you with the information necessary to perform your volunteer role;
• Provide you with relevant information relating to NWAS;
• Keep you up to date with procedures/policies;
• When processing validating and processing expenses.
The following records will be maintained for every volunteer:
• Details of your training, including records of any assessments and test results;
• Information on your responder or driving activities, including any records you generate.
• Results from DBS
• Driving licence and endorsements
Passport photographs are used to create an identity card. Next of kin details will be used if we need to contact somebody whilst you are volunteering for us.
