If you, or someone you’re with, has a cut or graze and it is bleeding, you can help by following these instructions:
- If you can, go and get a first aid kit
- With some soap and water, gently wash the graze to remove any dirt. Don’t worry if this makes it bleed a little bit.
- Get a clean pad and press it against the cut or graze until it is dry and has stopped bleeding.
- Cover the cut and graze with a plaster – make sure the plaster is big enough so that the sticky part isn’t touching the cut.
If the person is bleeding heavily – if there is lots of blood and it won’t stop – ring 999 and do exactly as the person on the other end of the phone says.
