There can only be one winner, and our judging panel chose the design by eight-year-old Charlotte from Wigan. Charlotte took inspiration from her mum’s job role for her creation as her mum is a paramedic. Charlotte is encouraging people to be safe and says: “Bonfire Night is fun but please don’t spend it with my mum.”
Because we did get so many great entries, our judging panel also selected two runners up, they were Libby and Lily.
Libby, aged six from Glossop impressed our judging panel with her simple yet effective messaging encouraging children to ‘stay back, stay safe’ from fireworks and bonfires to not get hurt.
Five-year-old Lily from Burnley certainly met the brief with her creation and Reel informing children that ‘fireworks burn, stay back’ from them.
Congratulations to Charlotte, Libby, Lily and everybody who took part – your creations were outstanding.
We would like to remind you of some simple steps to take if you are out celebrating tonight:
- Stand well back when lighting sparklers or fireworks.
- Supervise children and pets, keeping them at a safe distance.
- Read and follow firework instructions closely.
- Avoid drinking alcohol when handling fireworks or sparklers.
- Only adults (18+) should light bonfires and fireworks.
- Never touch a firework.
- Never return to a firework once it has been lit.
- Ensure children wear gloves when holding a sparkler
- Encourage children to leave their dressing up clothes at home on fireworks night, and to wrap up warm instead.
- If you catch your clothes on a flame, don’t panic – STOP, DROP and ROLL:
- STOP what you are doing.
- DROP to the ground and cover your face with your hands.
- ROLL over and over to put out the flames.
- Practice your STOP, DROP and ROLL before your fireworks celebrations.
We echo the sentiments in Charlotte’s poster, we hope we don’t see you this Bonfire Night but please remember, if you do need us for life-threatening emergencies, call 999, or visit 111.nhs.uk for urgent medical help.
