“I’ve worked at NWAS for over two years; before that, I worked as a paramedic in Derbyshire with East Midlands Ambulance Service. I have now been qualified for five and a half years.
“I decided I wanted to be a paramedic because I’ve always been interested in anything medical. My Saturday nights growing up consisted of me watching the programme Casualty with my grandparents and asking all sorts of questions!
“I wanted to make a difference to people with my actions and loved the idea of working in the community, going to different places and being welcomed into someone’s home when they call for an ambulance.
“I’m a Christian and as I’ve gotgotder, I’ve depended on my faith more than ever. Especially during university when the work was becoming harder, and I’ve also found myself turning to my faith after difficult jobs. I call it my ‘peaceful place’.
“Christmas is one of the most important dates in the Christian calendar, the remembrance of the birth of Jesus. It’s a time of reflection and joy which we celebrate. My favourite part is the family time that we’re lucky enough to enjoy. I come from quite a big family, so when I finish work, we all get a chance to sit together and have good food, plenty of laughs, and give presents. To see the look on my nieces and nephews’ faces is priceless.”
Lucy shares something people may not know about Christmas: “The word Christmas originates from the phrase “Cristes Maesse”, first recorded in 1038. It roughly translates as ‘mass of Christ’, the mass being the service and Christ being Jesus.”
